It’s not just about the colours or the kind of toys a kid plays with; the tendency to belittle ‘womanly’ things is much more deep rooted. Even though the world’s most famous designers and chefs are men (this is the topic for another discussion), people still mock a boy who likes to cook, sew or wear makeup. When did cooking become girlish or even if it was, why is it not the right thing to do for a boy? People let their boys wear mom’s heels at home but not outside. It’s even more problematic than not letting them wear heels at all.
Such notions are very common in India and even in more advanced societies like the United States of America. Don’t believe me? Listen to my talk with American Writer, Singer and Actor Craig Pomranz who shares how stereotypes are common everywhere in the world and what we can do to be more accepting.
Craig is the author of Made By Raffi, a wonderful book for kids (and adults) which tells us that it’s ok to be different and it always pays to be you.
There’s also a beautiful song waiting for you at the end. The song sung by Craig himself is called Different.

Going back to work after having a child is a tough decision in itself and we have talked about making the decision in Episode 26. But what if you join work again and meet with less than enthusiastic colleagues especially superiors. Many women joining the workforce after motherhood have to go through challenges they don’t deserve. If she has made the decision to be back, rest assured she will give it her best but many employers aren’t able to understand this. Some bosses can be difficult overtly while others drop subtle hints.
In this episode, I discuss unfair practices towards mothers at the workplace- Mommy track, what they have to go through and what they really want.
I have Divya Kapoor with me who talks about her experience with such unfair treatment at her IT company and how she found support.

Always looking for new learning activities for kids? New classes to join, new things to learn? We have all done that because we want our kids to succeed in a way we want. We push them to do things that other kids are doing. Soon, our kids also leave their creativity behind and want to be like everyone else.
What if we gave them freedom, let them explore what they like and then do what they want. Such kids are more likely to succeed later in life even in the most conventional things.
To discuss this, I invited Moushmi Prakasham, ex-marketing professional and one of my favourite Insta-moms. What she says makes complete sense and her ideas are easily applicable to every kid and parent. Tune in now.
